I am writing because we are seeking volunteers for two career
encouragement projects:
Actuarial Career Information Fair
We are seeking a volunteer to lead a breakout session titled "Auto
Rating Game" at the CAS/SOA Actuarial Career Information Fair. The Fair
is scheduled for Sunday, October 18 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New
York, N.Y., which is the day before the SOA Annual Meeting. In the Auto
Rating Game session, attendees will be divided into teams to work out an
actuarial problem. They will learn how the cost of auto insurance is
determined. Prizes (which we provide) will be awarded to the winning
team.
We already have the presentation and format for the session, as it has
been given at the last two career information fairs. We need someone to
lead the session. If you are in the New York area, or will be attending
the SOA Annual Meeting, please consider volunteering for this event.

Ask an Actuary on the CAS Web Site
The CAS Web Site contains a special section for those considering a
career as an actuary. This section contains a feature called "Ask an
Actuary." Each month, a different casualty actuary is asked 10 standard
questions that describe the path that led him/her to an actuarial
career. In addition, visitors to the site have the opportunity to
submit questions to the profiled member. The questions are sent to the
member via e-mail and answers are returned via e-mail. The questions
and answers are then posted on the site. See
http://www.casact.org/career/ask4.htm for this month's actuary. If you
would be willing to serve for a month in this capacity, please e-mail me
at mboa@casact.org.
