SAS is both a statistical analysis and data management tool. SAS has
strong analysis components in Statistics, Econometrics, Forecasting,
etc. However, it's popularity is most due to it's data management and
reporting capabilities. For example, it can read almost all kinds of
files, and database specific tables.
SAS is not a full featured database language but except for large scale,
formal database applications such as a transaction database at a bank,
SAS can be considered a database language as well.
Check out SAS site http://www.sas.com.
I will happy to answer other questions you might have.
