Morning Sessions

Engaging and Motivating Volunteers

One of the greatest challenges facing a volunteer leader is recruiting and engaging volunteers to help accomplish your goals. It requires leaders to understand what help is needed, what skills are required, and what form of motivation will truly excite a volunteer to commit to a project.

This hands-on session will provide CAS leaders with practical tools needed to engage a volunteer in a way that makes the assignment successful and professionally rewarding, so the volunteer will be inclined to participate in future, more ambitious assignments. In addition, you’ll gain skills that are highly transferable in managing projects and leading teams in your professional role.

Update: Controversial Issues Facing CAS

The morning session will also include a presentation on current CAS issues generating interest of late, including the new continuing education requirements and discipline issues. Learn more about these issues and others, and how they might impact the work of CAS volunteer leaders.

Afternoon Session

Vice President and Chairpersons Planning Sessions

Following lunch, we will organize into break-out groups, with Committee and Task Force Chairs meeting with their Vice Presidents to discuss operational issues. This valuable opportunity for Chairs and Vice Presidents to discuss issues face-to-face will go a long way towards advancing the work of the CAS and the actuarial profession. Your participation is vital!

The meeting concludes with a session with reports from the breakout groups to capture ideas for later follow-through.
