CAS Discussion Forum Orientation

Introduction

This page provides instructions for using the CAS Discussion Forums. You can also find answers to frequently asked questions by clicking the FAQ link on the Main Page of the Discussion Forum.

1. Features

The Discussion Forum contains a number of links that launch various features to help you use the system.

  • Profile - allows you to change your user profile and request a forgotten password
  • Register - where you register your username and e-mail address to post new topics or reply to existing topics
  • Preferences - allows you to create personal preferences, such as the option to store your username and password
  • FAQ - answers to frequently asked questions about the Forum
  • Search - search for messages and threads by key words, subject, date, and username

2. Register

All persons wishing to post new topics or reply to existing topics on the CAS Web Site Discussion Forum must register their screen name with the CAS office, providing verifiable contact information including their real name. Forum participants may choose to use their real name or their registered, anonymous screen name for their postings on the Discussion Forum.

To register, click on the "Register" link. After reading and agreeing to the disclaimer and guidelines, you are required to complete the Discussion Forum Registration Form. Complete the form, being sure to provide all requested information. The registration process involves a manual verification of the information you provide. Please allow up to two business day for processing your registration request. You will be notified via email when your screen name has been activated.

3. Posting a Reply to a Current Topic

The heart of the Main Page is the categories. Clicking on a category gives you a list of topics within that category.

You can read the messages posted in a topic by clicking on the hypertext topic link. After reading the messages under the topic, click on "Post Reply" to add your thoughts and comments to the existing ones. You will be asked to supply your username and password when you post a reply. Post your message in the box provided and then click the "Submit Reply" button. You should see the message you just created among the others listed.

To create a new topic use the form described below.

4. Posting a New Topic

If you want to begin a discussion on a new topic within a category, you should create a new topic and then post an initial message to get the topic rolling. To create a new topic first choose a category, then click on the "Post New Topic" button and type in the subject in the Subject Field. Choose a short, descriptive name for the topic which will be clear to other users. You will then be prompted to post the first message. Post your message in the box provided and then click on the "Submit New Topic" button. After a few seconds, you should see the message you just created among the others listed.
