The 2006 Spring Meeting of the Casualty Actuarial Society provides a forum for actuaries and other professionals to stay abreast of current issues affecting the insurance industry. This meeting will allow actuaries to pursue their continuing education requirements while also affording an opportunity to network with colleagues.
Four general sessions are planned:
The featured speaker is Michael Broome. In addition, a variety of concurrent sessions are planned on a variety of topics. The meeting will also feature separate special tracks on ERM and reserve variability/stochastic reserving which will be presented within the Concurrent Sessions of this meeting.
- Enterprise Risk Management Roundtable
- Natural Catastrophes - Have the Rules Changed?
- Predictive Modeling - Panacea or Placebo?
- International Reserving Practices
The cluster of sessions on reserving is aimed at a typical reserving actuary, who must support a process that produces a reserve on a periodic basis to be booked in corporate financial statements. The sessions will focus on where we are today as a society and a profession on this topic; what things have been done, and how well do they work; and some concrete examples getting into some of the mathematics behind the techniques. If you are interested in participating in this track of sessions, please indicate as such on the registration form and include your e-mail address to be contacted ahead of time with pre-readings and spreadsheets for hands-on use.
Time has been allotted for informal discussion with other CAS members. In addition to two scheduled receptions, attendees and accompanying persons will enjoy a Caribbean beach buffet dinner on Tuesday evening. Please see the guest activity program for details.
