Objective
This seminar's purpose is to provide information on a variety of reinsurance topics, both
assumed and ceded. Practical approaches to problems will be presented and discussion will be
encouraged. Participants can expect to gain awareness and insight into difficult issues and are welcome to
share their own ideas.
Target Audience
The program is aimed at experienced actuaries (or other experienced industry professionals) with
a knowledge of reinsurance. Some sessions will involve technical pricing, reserving, and modeling
issues, while others will be of a more general reinsurance nature. Two intermediate track sessions featured
at this year's seminar are intended for actuaries with three or fewer years of reinsurance experience.
Other actuaries and insurance professionals who want to gain a better understanding of standard
reinsurance pricing and reserving techniques are also welcome to attend these intermediate sessions.
This year's meeting will feature paper presentations on reinsurance research sponsored by ASTIN
as well as presentations of call papers sponsored by the Joint Program Committee for
Reinsurance Seminars. The topic of this year's call paper program is using "Using Dynamic Financial Analysis
to Optimize Ceded Reinsurance Programs and Retained Portfolios." Another feature of this
year's meeting, research corners, will allow for detailed discussions on reinsurance research in its early
stage of development.
Format
The Casualty Actuaries in Reinsurance (CARe) seminar will consist of two general sessions as well
as concurrent breakout sessions. Most of the sessions will be offered twice to allow for smaller
audiences and to keep scheduling flexible.
