The 2007 Seminar on Ratemaking provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of ratemaking methods, concepts, and issues. A variety of sessions will be offered to insurance professionals of all levels, including our annual introductory track for non-actuaries who would like to gain a stronger understanding of the various actuarial methods and issues employed in the science of ratemaking. This seminar will provide an opportunity for actuaries, underwriters, and other insurance professionals to further their continuing education.
The two-day event will kick off with a keynote address by Mark D. Lyons, president and chief operating officer of the Arch Insurance Group. Mr. Lyons will share his view of the underwriting cycle, actuaries’ past—and possible future—roles in managing this cycle, and the prospect of actuarial training as a background for other senior roles in the industry.
Following the keynote address, more than 40 different concurrent sessions will be offered, covering data management and technology; workers compensation; commercial lines; personal lines; predictive modeling; risk and capital management; regulatory, reinsurance, and specialty topics; and discussion papers.
The seminar will conclude with a general session presentation on the work of the U.K. Pricing Issues Taskforce (GRIP) in areas related to the role of the actuary in pricing, effective communication of actuarial issues, and improvement of continuing education.
As an added bonus, the Committee on the Ratemaking Seminar and the Committee on General Business Skills Education are offering a special pre-seminar session titled “Powerful Public Presentations.” This general business skills session is designed to help technical speakers strengthen their public presentations, focusing on content development and presentation delivery. The session will be on March 7, 2007 from 2:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. The session is being offered at no extra cost but is limited to 25 participants, so be sure and register soon!
