In order to provide casualty actuaries and other interested parties with an introduction to the subject of financial risk management, the CAS is offering a series of online courses on the subject. This online course is taught asynchronously to allow participants to fit the work into their individual schedules. The course consists of the following:
- Six Lectures (PowerPoint slides with audio voice-overs)
- Introduction to Financial Risk Management
- How Financial Risks Compare and Contrast with Insurance Risks
- How Financial Risk Management Increases Firm Value
- Measuring Exposure to Financial Risk
- What Derivatives Are and How Insurers Use Them
- The Current State of Financial Risk Management by Insurers
- Selected Readings
- Periodic Problems and Questions (facilitated by the Online Course Discussion Forum)
- Final exam
The course will presume no prior knowledge of financial risk management, but will assume that participants have a general knowledge of the basics of finance, as covered in CAS/SOA Exam 2 or at the Limited Attendance Finance Seminars.
Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 40 participants.
Registration Fee $375 if received before April 22, 2005 $425 if received after April 22, 2005
