Welcome to Washington Tour |
(The bus will depart the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance of the hotel at 10:00 am.)
Price Per Person: $65 ($100 Canadian)
Washington, D.C. rivals, and indeed, most resembles the great power centers of the past. Witness the city’s stately splendor by visiting the striking landmarks presented on this tour. At the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, walk the cavernous Hall of States and Hall of Nations and visit the rooftop terrace for a spectacular view of the city. At the Lincoln Memorial admire the immense, brooding figure of Abraham Lincoln keeping watch over the city. After a short walk, pause at the powerful and moving Vietnam Veterans Memorial, an endless stretch of black granite on which are engraved the many thousands of American soldiers lost during the Vietnam War. The tour will then continue on past the towering Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial located at the edge of the Tidal Basin, arriving at the FDR Memorial, Washington’s newest memorial. This powerful monument of granite walls and waterfalls honors our nation’s longest serving president.
You will stop for lunch in Washington’s most fashionable, historic district, Georgetown. Georgetown, named after King George II, was a bustling port long before the establishment of the District of Columbia. Following lunch, travel along the Mall to Capitol Hill. On Capitol Hill, see the Supreme Court Building, the Library of Congress and visit Washington’s most prominent landmark, the U.S. Capitol Building. The U.S. Capitol Building is a masterpiece of architecture and a symbol of democracy. Climb the Capitol’s grand white marble steps and enter the Rotunda, where our greatest leaders have lain in state. Continue on to Statuary Hall, the Old Senate Chamber and the Old Supreme Court Chamber. Departing this two- hundred-year-old landmark, reboard the bus for the trip back to the hotel.
